Australian travel trade publication Karryon recently chronicled Destination Canada’s Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) immersion journey through Manitoba. The eight-day expedition brought key Australian travel executives and trade leaders across Winnipeg, Churchill, and Riding Mountain National Park to experience the province firsthand and explore how travel can serve as a catalyst for community connection, conservation, and reconciliation.
Our Involvement
Indigenous Tourism Manitoba (ITM) played a central role throughout the delegation’s itinerary. ITM CEO Holly Spence took part in high-level strategy workshops aboard a Frontiers North Tundra Buggy on the Churchill River, presenting Manitoba’s opportunities and introducing local Indigenous tourism operators to the Australian trade. Delegates took part in dog carting with ITM President Dave Daley of Wapusk Adventures, learned traditional soapstone carving from Fred Spence of Peguis First Nation, visited Indigenous-owned Nonsuch Brewing Co. in Winnipeg, and engaged in profound reconciliation education at the National Indigenous Residential School Museum in Portage la Prairie.
